Content restriction

Content restriction is the mechanism that checks a visitor's membership levels before rendering protected content. When the check fails the visitor sees a paywall or login prompt instead of the content.

Good restriction happens on the server. A rule that only hides content with CSS still ships the full text to the browser, where anyone can read it in view-source — and search engines may index it.
