Dunning
The retry-and-remind process that recovers a failed recurring payment.
When a renewal charge fails, dunning is what happens next: the system retries on a schedule and emails the member asking them to update their card, rather than cancelling on the first decline.
Involuntary churn — members lost to a failed card rather than a decision — is often a large share of total churn. Dunning is the cheapest retention work available, because these members already wanted to stay.
